Sweden and France have signed a bilateral agreement regarding cooperation on a new anti-tank missile system, RBS 58. The system will further enhance the Swedish Armed Forces' capability for armed combat against qualified adversaries. The agreement enables joint studies, procurements, and development, according to FMV in a press release.

Mikael Frisell, head of the command staff at FMV, signed on behalf of Sweden under the agreement that follows the declaration of intent signed on 1 July 2021 between FMV and its French counterpart, Direction générale de l’armement, DGA.

– This agreement is a very important step for the deepened cooperation with France in the defence area, says Mikael Frisell.

Trials have been conducted since 2022 with the 12th Motorised Infantry Battalion at the Life Guards. Training is planned to commence in Swedish units already in 2023.

RBS 58 is known internationally as Akeron MP and is manufactured by MBDA. The company was also responsible for the tests conducted in winter with firing the missile from a Combat Vehicle 90.
