The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Finnish Defence Forces (Puolustusvoimat) have conducted a joint procurement of radio stations from the Finnish company KNL, according to press releases from FMV and KNL. The order covers radio systems of the type CNHF Manpack and has a combined value of approximately 168 million Swedish kronor (around EUR 15 million).
The deal is the first under the Nordic NORDEFCO (Nordic Defence Cooperation) agreement on joint C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence) procurements. The agreement, signed in April 2025, is intended according to FMV to support shared communications, situational awareness and interoperability between Sweden and Finland. Deliveries are to be completed before the end of the year.
"Through the joint procurement of CNHF radios, we are strengthening Nordic defence cooperation and our shared operational capability," says Rebecca Ihrfors, head of FMV's command and control systems business area.
KNL's system is, according to the company, independent of external infrastructure, including GPS, and designed for secure communications in complex environments. The company is based in Oulu (northern Finland) and is part of the Telenor Group.
