Scandinavian X plans to use Swedish-manufactured TNT in its drone systems from 2028. The explosive will be supplied by the newly established company SWEBAL, according to a new letter of intent.
According to Front Ventures, SWEBAL will supply TNT for the warhead section of Scandinavian X's drone systems, with a planned start in 2028 when the company's factory in Nora (central Sweden) is expected to be completed. Until then, a Ukrainian supplier is used. SWEBAL is a new Swedish player in the explosives production sector and is currently awaiting permits for a production facility outside Nora.
– We are proud to contribute to re-establishing Swedish production of strategic explosives. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality with modern technology, thereby enabling the systems and materiel that an effective defence needs, says Joakim Sjöblom, CEO of SWEBAL, in a post on LinkedIn.
Scandinavian X is part of Front Ventures' portfolio and is involved in a newly formed joint venture with the defence tech company Skygaard Defense Solutions and the investor network Hede Capital, which will manufacture drones in Sweden based on technology from the Ukrainian company Vluchnyk. According to a press release from Front Ventures, components are used according to NATO standards.
– This collaboration is an important step to strengthen both Swedish and European capacity in defence production. Domestic production of TNT means increased independence, shorter supply chains, and more secure access for our future customers within NATO and Ukraine, says Jonas Malmgren, CEO of Front Ventures, in the press release.
