– This type of agreement is beneficial in several ways. In addition to joint procurement and lower prices, having the same equipment allows for interchangeability and also enables common and efficient logistics chains between the countries. Furthermore, joint agreements and orders demonstrate larger volumes to the industry, which facilitates their growth and encourages the expansion of production lines, says Rebecca Ihrfors, head of FMV's Command and Control Systems division, in the press release.
FMV and the Finnish counterpart Defence Forces Logistics Command signed the agreement within the framework of a Nordic defense cooperation for joint procurement of defense materiel. With Senop Oy, the agreement includes equipment for observation and night vision, and incorporates a previous Finnish declaration of intent to acquire image intensifiers. This provides both Sweden and Finland the opportunity to use high-tech products in optronics, with support for further development of these products, the agency writes.
– This framework agreement is an excellent example of close bilateral defense cooperation between Finland and Sweden. The agreement creates conditions for the development of the countries' defense forces' closer interoperability and supply security. This, in turn, supports our continuous development of high-tech solutions, says Aki Korhonen, CEO of Senop Oy, in a press release from the company.
The agreement with Aimpoint AB concerns specially developed red dot sights to be used by both countries' defense forces. The red dot sights will be installed on the Armed Forces' new automatic rifles, and the joint framework agreement allows the countries to quickly acquire more sights if needed, FMV writes.
