Sweden will contribute the equivalent of 2.7 billion kronor to a new military support package for Ukraine, made possible through American materiel and coordinated by NATO. The government announced this on August 5.

Together with Denmark and Norway, Sweden is financing a complete support package with a total value of 500 million dollars. The package will include air defense, anti-tank systems, ammunition, and spare parts.

– We welcome the US decision to provide materiel to Ukraine, including ammunition for the Patriot air defense system, and that NATO is coordinating the support. Ukraine has a great need for support from allies and partners to defend itself against Russian aggression, says Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M).

The Swedish contribution, 275 million dollars, is taken from the existing financial framework for military support to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Sweden has contributed military support worth nearly 83 billion kronor in total.

– Ukraine is on the front line for our freedom and democracy. Blue and yellow solidarity is therefore the single most important thing right now. We stand by their side as long as it takes, support package after support package, said Education Minister Simona Mohamsson (L) during the press conference.

US President Donald Trump announced on July 14 that several new support packages with American materiel will be made available to Ukraine. NATO member countries and partners are providing the funding, while the implementation is coordinated by NATO to ensure that the packages meet Ukraine's prioritized needs.
