Sweden will donate air defense systems worth 1.2 billion kronor to Ukraine. This was announced by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Minister for Energy and Business Ebba Busch, and Minister for Education Johan Pehrson in an opinion piece in Svenska Dagbladet.

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has been tasked with acquiring the air defense systems Robot 70 and Tridon Mk2 to donate to Ukraine's air defense. Robot 70 has been used by Sweden and several other countries for almost 50 years. Tridon Mk2 is a newly developed Swedish air defense system developed by BAE Systems Bofors, based on a modernized version of the Bofors 40 mm naval gun.

In addition to these systems, Sweden plans, in cooperation with international partners, to donate additional air defense missiles of types that Ukraine already uses, as well as man-portable air defense weapons.

Tridon Mk2, which was launched by BAE Systems Bofors in June 2024, is a self-propelled air defense system with a firing rate of 300 rounds per minute and a range of up to 12 kilometers. The system can be mounted on various vehicles or unloaded onto platforms and uses Bofors programmable 3P ammunition. In October, Bofors and FMV signed a letter of intent for the development of a demonstrator of the air defense system TRIDON Mk2.
