The Home Guards of Scandinavia Strengthen Cooperation
Sweden, Norway, and Denmark are deepening cooperation between their home guards to enhance operational capability within NATO. A new agreement was signed to improve the possibilities for joint operations.
The cooperation, known as SKANDIA, has its roots in the post-war period and continues to develop.
According to the Armed Forces, the chiefs of the Home Guards in the three countries met on July 2 to sign a new agreement aimed at improving the ability to conduct operations in border areas. The new agreement entails increased cooperation in training, exercises, and development, which will lead to a jointly strengthened operational capability.
– Together with our allies, we are building collective defense capability. Cooperation in our region is of central importance. In a NATO context, the ability to provide host nation support becomes a significant task for the Home Guards. To be able to provide this to allied units, we need to move across each other's borders. Therefore, we must have good cooperation skills, says National Home Guard Chief Laura Swaan Wrede in the article.
