The Chief of the Swedish Security Service (Säpo), Charlotte von Essen, warned today during the People and Defence national conference in Sälen that Sweden may be subjected to increased Russian espionage activities. According to Säpo, Swedish infrastructure is particularly vulnerable, and von Essen calls for extra vigilance. The reason for the increased espionage is linked to the deteriorating global situation. von Essen urges special attention in three different sectors: telecommunications, electricity supply, and transportation of critical materials. Säpo has intensified its efforts to counter the increased threat from Russian intelligence activities.

von Essen states that Säpo is working to prevent more cases of espionage and that the work is carried out in cooperation with the Military Intelligence and Security Service (MUST), but she points out that it can never be guaranteed that more cases will not occur.
