The German defence procurement agency communicated in June 2023 that Saab's sensor solution Arexis was selected for the Eurofighter EK, which is a new electronic warfare variant of the German Air Force's Eurofighter aircraft. The order means that Saab is now initiating the first phase of work towards delivering Arexis within this programme.
Saab's order comes from Airbus, which is contracted to upgrade 15 of the German Air Force's Eurofighter aircraft with the capabilities required to perform electronic warfare missions. The aircraft will replace the German Air Force's Tornado ECR, which is to be phased out from 2030.
- Saab has extensive experience in developing electronic warfare systems and a close collaboration with Airbus. Our sensor solution Arexis, which is based on advanced hardware and software with AI-based algorithms, will enhance the German defence with world-class electronic warfare capability for several decades to come, says Micael Johansson, Saab's President and CEO.
The AI platform used for Arexis is developed by Saab's strategic AI partner Helsing. Arexis is a proven electronic warfare solution with advanced sensor and self-protection capabilities that provide the user with the ability to detect, locate, and identify advanced radar threats in complex electromagnetic environments, according to the press release from Saab.
