Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the delivery of a new launch system for the Gripen C/D and E fighter aircraft. The order, valued at approximately one billion kronor, includes the design, manufacture, and integration of a modern weapon carrier system that enhances the aircraft's capability to carry and utilise future types of weapons. Saab states in a press release.
For the Swedish Air Force, the order represents an important step in extending the lifespan of the Gripen and increasing availability at a time when air dominance is becoming increasingly crucial. The system is intended to ensure that the Gripen remains relevant in the coming decades and that the platform maintains its international competitiveness.
The order also demonstrates the strong connection between Swedish governmental procurement expertise and domestic industrial capacity. Through FMV's close collaboration with Saab, Sweden continues to develop and retain critical system expertise in aviation and weapon technology. This not only strengthens the Swedish Armed Forces but also enhances the shared resilience and innovation capability of the Nordic industry.
