Saab has received an order for the Giraffe 4A radar system from a country in Latin America. The deal is valued at approximately 550 million SEK and also includes related services. According to Saab, the mobile, self-sufficient radar system will enhance the customer's ground-based air surveillance and can be upgraded via software. – We are proud of our first contract for the land-based Giraffe 4A in Latin America.


This is a significant step in the region with our medium-range radar, says Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab's business area Surveillance. Giraffe 4A is a multifunctional radar for air and sea surveillance, capable of simultaneously tracking a large number of targets.

The system is based on AESA technology according to previous information. The order follows other deals with Giraffe 4A. In December 2024, BAE Systems ordered the system for the USAF's operations in Europe, an order valued at approximately 525 million SEK with delivery starting in 2027. In June 2025, FMV signed an agreement for several systems with a total value of approximately 1.4 billion SEK, with the first delivery in 2026 under the Sensorsystem ny program.
