Saab is investing 11.1 million euros to acquire a 10 percent ownership stake in the Paris-based defence technology company Comand AI. The investment is intended to strengthen the development of AI-based command and control support systems.
According to Saab's press release, Comand AI's AI-based planning solutions and technical expertise will be integrated into Saab's research and development operations. The aim is to further develop the company's Command and Control (C2) systems and C5ISR capability (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance), which includes GlobalEye and ongoing multi-domain C2 initiatives.
"C5ISR systems are essential for modern multi-domain operations, and advanced AI is a key enabler of future capability. Through our collaboration with Comand AI, we are strengthening the development of Saab's C2 and C5ISR capabilities, while combining Swedish defence expertise with French AI innovation. The collaboration also underlines the value of European cooperation in promoting long-term security," said Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Saab's Surveillance business area, in a press release.
Saab states that the investment will strengthen the company's collaboration with the French defence industry and innovation sector. The transaction is subject to approval from the relevant regulatory authorities.
