Saab and the Polish defence group PGZ Group have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the naval domain. The collaboration covers areas including underwater technology, submarine maintenance, and the possible development of new naval systems.
According to a press release from Saab, the companies will cooperate on service and lifecycle support for surface vessels and submarines, while naval companies within PGZ Group will be integrated into Saab's supply chain. The parties will also explore joint export opportunities for both surface and underwater platforms, including rescue vessels, as well as further cooperation in multi-domain operations and the production of mortar ammunition in Poland.
The agreement also includes plans to establish a future centre for underwater technology in Poland. The companies will additionally evaluate joint production and marketing of Saab's autonomous naval drone system, the Autonomous Ocean Drone, and explore opportunities for cooperation on a heavyweight torpedo.
«I am pleased to have signed this agreement today with PGZ and to see the pace at which our cooperation is developing. The agreement reflects a strong commitment to a deepened partnership between Polish and Swedish industry, while also contributing to increased security in the Baltic Sea and on NATO's eastern flank,» says Saab Chief Executive Officer Micael Johansson in the press release.
PGZ Chief Executive Officer Adam Leszkiewicz describes the agreement as a step towards strengthening Polish naval industrial capabilities and integrating the company into international supply chains.
The cooperation builds on a memorandum of understanding signed between Saab and PGZ at the MSPO defence exhibition in Kielce (southern Poland) in September 2025. In March 2026, the companies also signed a separate agreement on cooperation regarding the maintenance and repair of submarines within the Polish submarine programme Orka.
