Today, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) is participating in a Nordic summit in Oslo to discuss Nordic cooperation on security and defence issues. Attending the meeting are Nordic heads of state and government, as well as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office.

The meeting was announced on 8 December, but Zelenskyy's attendance was kept secret until recently. During the day, an opinion piece titled Now is not the time to tire, signed by Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finland's President Sauli Niinistö, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Iceland's Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, was published.

The article calls for increased engagement and long-term support for Ukraine and concludes with:

"Ukraine needs our continued support, our partnership, and our solidarity more than ever. Their fight for freedom depends on our perseverance [...]. Our common security also depends on it."

After the meeting, a press conference was held, where Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked, among others, Sweden for its continued support and donations of the Archer artillery system and Combat Vehicle 90.

Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre pointed out that he and his Nordic colleagues represent countries whose populations are very united in continuing to support Ukraine.

In Finnish President Sauli Niinistö's address, he emphasised the importance of increasing the production of defence materiel to continue supporting Ukraine.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson highlighted the winter package recently announced by the government and stated that they will discuss continued support for Ukraine and the country's future EU membership when EU heads of state and government meet within the framework of the European Council later in the week.
