At the government meeting on 14 September, it was decided that Peder Ohlsson will become the new Chief of the King's Staff and First Adjutant from 1 October 2023. He will thus leave his position as the Swedish Armed Forces' Director of Communications. Upon assuming the role, Peder Ohlsson will be promoted to Major General, according to a press release from the Royal Court on 29 September.
Major General Peder Ohlsson succeeds the current Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Jan Salestrand. Peder Ohlsson leaves his position as the Swedish Armed Forces' Director of Communications, which will be taken over by Anna Siverstig, former head of the Air Combat School.
Earlier in his career, Peder Ohlsson has been, among other roles, Deputy Chief of the Navy and Maritime Tactical Chief, as well as Chief of Staff for the Operations Command at the agency's headquarters and Commander of the Stockholm Amphibious Regiment, writes the Royal Court.
In an article on the Swedish Armed Forces' website, he says:
– The security policy situation with war in our immediate vicinity, an upcoming NATO membership, and highly prioritised support for Ukraine's struggle has placed high demands on precision in our communication. I would therefore like to thank all colleagues who have contributed in various ways to good and constructive work in the implementation of the Swedish Armed Forces' military strategic communication.
The Royal Staffs consist of the Chief of Staff, Senior Adjutants, and Adjutants – all of whom are officers in the Swedish Armed Forces. The Royal Staffs, under the leadership of the Chief of Staff, are to support the King and the Royal Court at official ceremonies, military exercises, and audiences.
The Chief of Staff also participates in state visits. The staff belongs to the Swedish Armed Forces and reports directly to the King. The Chief of Staff is also to assist the King and the Crown Princess with duty adjutants, writes the Royal Court on its website.
