The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has signed a framework agreement with the Swedish company Hestra Gloves for the delivery of a new lightweight combat glove to the Swedish Armed Forces. The glove is the first part of an upcoming handwear system and will replace the older model Combat Glove 2000.

According to FMV, the new model meets the requirements for increased flexibility and better tactility, which improves the soldier's ability to handle weapon systems and other fine motor tasks. The glove is made of goatskin and has been field-tested by personnel at three regiments.

– The great thing about the new glove is that it is more flexible, allowing the soldier to handle weapons in a more functional way, says Lisa Bernestål, systems engineer at FMV's logistics division, in a press release from the agency.

The background to the procurement is that today's combat gloves have been deemed too cold and stiff. Tests with soldiers were conducted over three months and included both shooting exercises and blindfolded tasks to evaluate dexterity.

– The gloves are made of goatskin, which is a strong and supple material that allows the soldier to handle weapons effectively and perform other fine motor activities, says Ann-Christin Vuohisalo, project manager at VerkO logistics.

Planned delivery to FMV is the beginning of 2026.

Hestra Gloves also has an existing framework agreement with the Danish defense. In January 2025, the Danish procurement agency FMI announced that it had signed an agreement with Hestra for gloves for various military purposes. As then, functionality, comfort, and durability were highlighted as decisive factors.
