According to a press release from FMV, the simulators will replace existing turret crew training facilities, TBTA, at the units as well as the crew training facility, BTA, at the Land Warfare School.
– In addition to replacing the older simulators, P18 on Gotland will receive a simulator. We are also increasing the number of simulators at I19 in the north and P7 in the south, says Pontus Berg, Leopard tank materiel area manager at the Swedish Armed Forces Army Staff.
The new simulator will enable training for a complete tank crew consisting of a commander, gunner, driver, and loader at all training levels, from basic position training to unit training. Just like the actual tank, the simulator will also be equipped with the new command support system.
– This project will genuinely strengthen Sweden's defense capability. Sweden has always been proficient in using modern simulators, and now we are once again taking a significant step in development. Much thanks to an excellent collaboration with everyone involved in the Swedish Armed Forces, at KNDS, and at FMV, says Claes Hallbäcken, project manager at FMV.
Deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces will take place continuously until 2029.
