Today marks the start of the Swedish Armed Forces exercise Aurora 23, which will continue until 11 May. Aurora 23 is the largest military exercise of its kind in more than 25 years, with approximately 26,000 men and women from Sweden and 14 other countries participating. The exercise primarily takes place in the southern parts of the country and on Gotland, a strategic island in the Baltic Sea.

The Swedish Armed Forces will practice everything from increasing readiness and mobilisation to large coordinated assaults on land, in the air, and at sea. To practice mobilisation, a mobilisation message will be broadcast on 24 April via Sveriges Radio P4 across the entire country. Additionally, other authorities will participate to enhance Sweden's total defence capability.

The exercise is conducted mainly on the Swedish Armed Forces' own shooting and training ranges but also on private land. Military transports will occur on roads, affecting traffic, and military personnel will be more visible than usual.

On the Swedish Armed Forces' website, you can follow where and when the exercises take place.
