Forsvarsbygg has signed a contract with the contractor Siero AS for the construction of a new regional maintenance centre at Værnes Air Base (central Norway). The contract is valued at 41.2 million Norwegian kroner.

The construction work is scheduled to begin in February 2026 with an estimated completion in January 2027, according to a press release from Forsvarsbygg. The facility will include office spaces, operations rooms, garages, and technical installations to support the operation of the new radar systems.

The project is part of a larger initiative where Forsvarsbygg will establish a total of eleven new radar installations by 2030 to strengthen Norway's defence capabilities. The technical maintenance for these systems will be managed from three regional centres, with the facility at Rygge (southeastern Norway) completed in 2024 and the final centre planned in Sørreisa (northern Norway). It has already been confirmed that a radar station will be built on Magerøya in Nordkapp municipality, as previously reported by NDS earlier.

The Trondheim-based contractor Siero AS won the tender for the Værnes construction in competition with other companies.

– Forsvarsbygg is committed to contributing to the local and regional business community. In the procurements we have previously conducted in Trøndelag (central Norway), local and regional contractors have proven to be very competitive. This was also the case here. There was tough competition, but Siero AS submitted the best bid this time, says Ylva Sneve, project manager at Forsvarsbygg.

Forsvarsmateriell acts as the overall project manager responsible for the technical procurement, while the Royal Norwegian Air Force (Luftforsvaret) will be the end user of the radar installations.
