Norway and the Netherlands have signed a new Letter of Intent (LoI) aimed at deepening defence cooperation between the countries. The agreement was signed on 5 November during the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) meeting in Bodø (northern Norway) by Norway's Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik and his Dutch counterpart Ruben Brekelmans.
According to Norway's Ministry of Defence, the Letter of Intent covers areas such as the defence industry, innovation, space cooperation, and joint planning in national and NATO-led operations. It builds upon a previous agreement from April 2025.
In a press release from the Dutch Ministry of Defence, it is stated that the agreement also involves joint exercises and cooperation in the Nordkalotten region, including with amphibious units.
"We are stronger when we work together," says Sandvik in the Norwegian press release. Brekelmans describes Norway as an important strategic partner and emphasises the importance of being able to plan and exercise jointly in Norway.
