Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) is hosting a summit in Stockholm on May 13-14 with the heads of government from the Nordic countries and Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The first day began with discussions on Nordic competitiveness, where business representatives also participated. The heads of government signed a joint declaration on the future competitiveness, growth, and security of the Nordic region.

One of the points addresses emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G/6G mobile communications, and quantum technology to increase productivity and support the green transition.

Another point emphasizes the need to create favorable conditions for investments in joint defense and security. It highlights the importance of a competitive defense industry for overall security and competitiveness and urges financial actors to reconsider self-imposed ESG rules that make defense investments impossible or difficult.

– To increase the Nordic region's competitiveness and growth, it is crucial to facilitate companies and people operating across borders. From the Swedish side, we need to focus on an integrated Nordic region without border obstacles. Fundamentally, it should be easy to live, study, work, and run businesses in the Nordic region and across borders, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in a press release from the Prime Minister's Office.

Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz joined the meeting later in the day, and together they visited Ericsson for discussions on security policy and new technologies.

Together, the six heads of government held a joint press conference, followed by a dinner to discuss continued support for Ukraine.

Later in the evening, the discussion will address continued support for Ukraine at a joint dinner.
