The Nordic countries signed a joint declaration on security of supply on 2 September. The cooperation aims to strengthen access to essential goods and services during peacetime crises, security policy crisis situations and, ultimately, war.
"A resilient society rests on robust security of supply. Through closer cooperation, we strengthen the whole of the Nordic region," says Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin in a press release from the Government Offices of Sweden.
Through this cooperation, the countries will develop a coordinated and resilient preparedness to maintain production, logistics, distribution and trade even during serious crises, security policy tensions and war.
The declaration was signed in connection with the Nordic Supplies Summit, an annual meeting held under the Nordic network for security of supply.
Security of supply refers to the ability to maintain access, during peacetime crises and heightened states of readiness, to goods and services essential for the survival of the population. It is also intended to safeguard the most critical societal functions and contribute to the capability of the military defence.
