Nordic Countries in Strategic Nammo Agreement

The Nordic countries have entered into a strategic agreement with Nammo to ensure the supply of ammunition. The agreement aims to strengthen supply security and increase production capacity.

Nordic Countries in Strategic Nammo Agreement
Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark have signed a strategic partnership agreement with Nammo AS. The agreement covers the production, delivery, and maintenance of ammunition for use in peacetime, crisis, and wartime to ensure supply security. The agreement also allows the Nordic countries to store and share ammunition across national borders.

According to the parties, the agreement is a response to the deteriorating security situation in Europe and the increased need for robust supply capacity. Initially, the agreement covers artillery ammunition in the 155 mm caliber and ammunition for small arms.

– We are very pleased that this agreement creates a framework with Nammo as a strong and committed partner in ammunition production. Nammo's extensive experience and expertise will ensure the delivery of quality products to our forces, the signing parties state in a joint statement.

The agreement enables coordinated procurement between the countries and increased production capacity. According to the Nordic defense ministries, the production of ammunition can be tripled in peacetime. This is expected to give the defense industry greater capacity and increase resilience in the event of a crisis.

– The Nordic region needs sufficient ammunition, both to deter those who do not wish us well and to be able to defend ourselves if necessary. This agreement is another step towards a more integrated Nordic defense cooperation, says Norway's Minister of Defense Tore O. Sandvik.
