New Strategy for Cyber Issues and Digital Security Launched

– Cyber and digital issues are growing in importance and are taking up more space in foreign and security policy. We have therefore developed a strategy to address this transformative development. It is about strengthening Sweden's prosperity and competitiveness in a digital world and enhancing resilience against cyber threats through international cooperation, says Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), who launched the government's new strategy at Cybercampus at KTH.

The strategy describes, among other things, the need to counter threats from state antagonistic actors, promote Swedish innovation, and strengthen international cooperation within the EU, NATO, and the UN. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and 6G are mentioned as crucial for Sweden's future influence and resilience.

The Armed Forces' recently presented Cyber Defense Doctrine Approach, which focuses on strengthening Sweden's operational cyber capability, which FSN has previously written about. While the government's strategy addresses the broader foreign and security policy dimensions, the doctrine approach aims to concretize how cyber defense should be planned and implemented in practice.
