The Havde logistics building at Tofta garrison on Gotland (the strategically important Swedish island in the Baltic Sea) has been inaugurated. The building is reported to be the largest at the garrison to date, covering 7,800 square metres. According to the Swedish Fortifications Agency (Fortifikationsverket), the logistics department handles all materiel required for Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten) personnel and conscripts on Gotland.
The name Havde derives from the Gutasaga, as do the names of several other buildings at Tofta garrison. The Swedish Fortifications Agency on LinkedIn states that the project was carried out in collaboration between the Swedish Fortifications Agency, the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the construction contractor. The Swedish Fortifications Agency notes that the greatest challenge during the project concerned the logistics within the building, specifically ensuring that workflows and the working environment were designed correctly.
According to the Swedish Fortifications Agency, the project reduced the amount of concrete used compared to traditional solutions. This was achieved by reinforcing the foundation slab using a different method than conventional reinforcement bars. The need for excavation and transportation was reduced by adapting to the site's ground conditions. The Swedish Fortifications Agency states that the project both lowered the carbon footprint and came in under budget.
The building is reported to serve as a reference for other similar buildings, including those planned for the new regiments being established across the country. In February, a new dining hall and kitchen building named Hwitstjernan was inaugurated at Gotland Regiment (P 18), as NDS previously reported.
