The Dutch Ministry of Defense announces that they will acquire 20 units of the Mortar Carrier Vehicle 90 (Mjölner) from BAE Systems Hägglunds. The first vehicles are expected to be deployed to units by 2028. The Netherlands thus becomes the second country, after Sweden, to acquire the weapon system.

FMV describes a Mortar Carrier Vehicle 90 as a weapon system with a mortar function mounted on a Combat Vehicle 90 chassis. Each vehicle has a crew of four, including the driver. The turret is equipped with two 120-millimeter barrels that can fire up to sixteen grenades per minute.

In January 2023, FMV expanded their order with an additional 20 units of Mjölner, bringing the total to 80 units for the Armed Forces.

The Dutch Ministerie van Defensie states that the army's mechanized units will continue to use towed 81 mm mortars, and the acquisition of Mjölner is made to extend possible range.

The Netherlands has been using Combat Vehicle 90 for a long time and is now conducting a Mid Life Upgrade on its vehicle fleet. Recently, the first vehicle was fully renovated.
