The Netherlands formally joins the multinational cooperation regarding the CV90 combat vehicle. The decision means that the country is now proceeding with a larger order within the framework of the Nordic procurement structure, with the aim of strengthening the army's ground combat capability.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence announced on Friday that it will acquire an undisclosed number of CV90 combat vehicles through what they call the Nordic Initiative, where Sweden is currently negotiating with the manufacturer BAE Systems Hägglunds on behalf of several nations.

The procurement budget is stated to be between 1 and 2.5 billion euros. The delivery schedule and the number of vehicles are classified, according to the Dutch Ministry of Defence.

The Netherlands signed in November a technical arrangement agreement together with Sweden, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, and Estonia for the joint development, use, and maintenance of the CV90 system.

Over 20 Dutch companies are expected to be involved in the manufacturing as subcontractors, including in connection with the modernization of existing CV90 vehicles.

The Dutch CV90 fleet is already subject to a life extension, including the installation of an Active Protection System (APS) for enhanced protection against anti-tank threats.
