The leaders of the Nordic-Baltic countries (NB8) and Ukraine have adopted a joint statement on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion. In the statement, the countries reaffirm continued cooperation and plan military contributions amounting to nearly 12.5 billion euros by 2026.
– We continue to provide comprehensive military support to Ukraine, the leaders state in the joint statement.
According to the press release from the meeting in Kyiv, the NB8 countries have contributed over 42 billion euros since the start of the war. The future assistance includes, among other things, 1.4 billion euros through the PURL mechanism in 2025. For 2026, the total military support is estimated to reach 12.5 billion euros, which will be delivered via bilateral and joint arrangements.
In addition to military materiel, at least 918 million euros are promised to protect and restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The countries also state that they intend to deepen defence cooperation through joint production, supported by European financial instruments such as SAFE.
The statement indicates that the countries will actively work towards, among other things, the establishment of an international compensation mechanism. Furthermore, it is announced that Estonia will host the conference on Ukraine's reconstruction in 2027.
