Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) is hosting the Nordic-Baltic Foreign Ministers' Meeting, NB8, taking place in Visby on 9–10 April. This year, Sweden is the coordinator of the informal foreign and security policy cooperation formats between the Nordic countries (N5) and the Nordic-Baltic countries (NB8), writes the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a press release.

– Sweden has a long-standing cooperation within the framework of the Nordic-Baltic format NB8, and as coordinator in 2024, I look forward to discussing how we can further deepen the cooperation. We will also discuss current foreign and security policy issues in the vicinity, not least continued support for Ukraine following Russia's full-scale invasion, says Foreign Minister Tobias Billström in the press release.

In October last year, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) hosted a summit with heads of state and government in Gotland. The meeting took place within the framework of the regional defence cooperation Joint Expeditionary Force.

Now it is time again for a summit in Visby, Gotland. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs writes that the main priorities for the presidencies in NB8 and N5 "are to strengthen the foreign and security policy cooperation in the region, stand firm in our regional unwavering support for Ukraine, and ensure continued global support for Ukraine."

Finland's Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, emphasises the close ties between the countries in a press release from the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

“The Nordic and Baltic countries are our closest partner countries. It is very important to regularly discuss current foreign and security policy issues in this composition.”
