NATO has published the main agenda ahead of the summit in Ankara on 7-8 July. Defence investment, the defence industry's production capacity, and continued support for Ukraine are the focus as the alliance's heads of state and government gather in Turkey.
According to NATO, the summit will follow up on the decisions made at the 2025 The Hague summit and establish a roadmap for continued work on the alliance's priorities. Participants include NATO heads of state and government as well as representatives from partner countries.
– The task before us is clear: to translate allied commitments into concrete results. Increased investment, increased industrial production, and continued support for Ukraine. All of this contributes to a stronger NATO and greater security for us all, says NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on NATO's website.
NATO highlights three main areas ahead of the meeting. The first is defence investment, where allies are to follow up on the commitment to defence spending equivalent to five per cent of GDP and ensure that investments are translated into the required military capabilities. The second is the defence industry, where the focus is on increased production, stronger supply chains, and enhanced cooperation on procurement. In connection with the summit, the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum will also be held on 7 July. The forum brings together representatives from NATO, member states, partner countries, and the defence industry.
The third main area is continued support for Ukraine. According to NATO, the summit will build on the alliance's long-term support for Ukraine and help ensure that the country can meet its immediate defence needs while making military support sustainable over the long term.
