The Danish Defence Command announces that NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) has decided to place a new signal battalion headquarters with an associated support company in Denmark. The headquarters and support company will be based near Louisegård in Haderslev (southern Jutland, Denmark), where new buildings will be erected on Danish Defence grounds. The unit is planned to be manned by approximately 100 soldiers along with a number of civilians from Denmark and other NATO member states, and is expected to be fully established by 2029.

Denmark offered in 2025 to establish the headquarters as a contribution to NATO's revised command structure. NATO already has three similar signal battalions in Germany, Italy and Poland, making the Danish unit the fourth of its kind.

"By setting up a NATO signal battalion headquarters, we are demonstrating that Denmark takes responsibility for our collective security within NATO and in the Nordic region. The signal battalion delivers a capability that NATO has requested and that enhances the alliance's combat power and deterrence," says Danish Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus.

"The establishment of the signal battalion headquarters in Denmark is an important step for NATO's ability to operate effectively. We are ready to carry out the task and contribute a capability that strengthens the alliance's overall readiness and cohesion," says Denmark's Chief of Defence, General Michael W. Hyldgaard.
