MSB changes its name to the Agency for Civil Defense on January 1, 2026, and simultaneously introduces a heraldic emblem as a symbol of its mission, reports the agency.

According to the agency, the name change is intended to reflect the need for unified leadership, direction, and coordination of civil defense across the entire country. The emblem is based on the lesser coat of arms, three crowns on a blue shield with a royal crown, complemented by a command staff with a blue triangle and two oak leaves. The blue triangle signifies civil defense and population protection, while the oak leaves represent strength, resilience, and endurance.

– I am proud to present the heraldic emblem of the Agency for Civil Defense, says Director General Mikael Frisell in MSB's press release.

At the press conference where the transformation was first announced, the government stated that the name change will be implemented from the turn of the year.

– The name change is also part of a cultural transformation journey, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister for Civil Defense.
