According to the directly translated press release, the purpose is to deepen cooperation between Sweden and Brazil in defence materiel. The minister will represent the Swedish government at the inauguration of Saab and Embraer's new testing and production facility for the Brazilian Air Force's (FAB) JAS 39 Gripen in Gavião Peixoto.
Additionally, the minister will meet with Vice President and Minister for Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Geraldo Alckmin; Defence Minister José Múcio; and the Minister for Integration and Regional Development Waldez Góes, whom the embassy describes as Bohlin's counterpart.
Recently, there has been a flurry of news regarding Brazil and Saab; on 5 May FAB announced that two additional aircraft had been delivered from Sweden via sea. Defence Minister Múcio recently appeared in Swedish media when he stated that Brazil might want to purchase more fighter jets than the 36 ordered in 2014. The statement was made at the LAAD 2023 fair, where Saab and Embraer also signed a memorandum of understanding for Saab to support Embraer's efforts to sell the KC-390 transport aircraft to Sweden, and Embraer, in turn, to support Saab in selling the Gripen to other countries in Latin America. In an interview with the news agency Reuters, Saab's CEO Micael Johansson says that the company hopes Colombia will soon resume its procurement of fighter aircraft and that the country will then choose Saab as a partner. Another country he mentions in the interview as interesting in the long term is Peru. While Bohlin is in Brazil, the Minister for Climate and Environment Romina Pourmokhtari is currently in Colombia according to Sweden's embassy's Twitter.
