Joint Arctic Command, Greenland Police, Aasiaat Radio and Air Greenland have trained maritime search and rescue together in the waters around Nuuk. The exercise, TAPPIK, simulated a collision between a fishing vessel and a tourist boat, Danish Defence said on 30 October.

— The courses enable participants to handle the particular conditions that apply in Greenland, says Lieutenant Commander Michael Senger, who led the training.

Responders had to find a liferaft and people in the water. They also treated injured people on the tourist boat, including for broken limbs and cardiac arrest, and dealt with a leak below deck.

Danish Defence sent the inspection ships Triton and Ejnar Mikkelsen, an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter and a Challenger aircraft. The police deployed boats, and Air Greenland flew its SAR helicopter. Aasiaat Radio coordinated from land.

TAPPIK also served as the practical end of the SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) and On Scene Coordinator (OSC) courses that Joint Arctic Command ran in Nuuk.
