Until today, helicopters training with the navy in the Stockholm area had to land at temporary sites not intended for helicopters. This placed significant demands on the ground organisation and risked damaging surrounding infrastructure. With the new landing site, helicopters can land more safely and also be monitored more effectively, writes the Swedish Armed Forces.
– The need for a military helicopter base in the Stockholm area has increased in recent years, not least due to the international situation. Maritime operational helicopters are an important and common resource in the navy's exercises and operations. The new landing site will facilitate joint exercises and strengthen the combined capability of the navy and the air force, explains navy chief Ewa Skoog Haslum.
– The navy is clear about its needs for maritime operational helicopters and we have a well-functioning collaboration. Additionally, this take-off and landing site facilitates our cooperation with other authorities, such as the Police and the Swedish Maritime Administration, says deputy air force chief Tommy Petersson.
