From the autumn term of 2025, education about Sweden's total defense will become a mandatory component in high school social studies. The decision affects approximately 400,000 students, according to a press release from the Swedish Armed Forces.

According to the Swedish Armed Forces, the education Together We Are Total Defense is being introduced into the high school social studies curriculum. The education is digital and interactive and can be completed individually in two hours or teacher-led in four hours.

– Educating young people in total defense knowledge is an investment in Sweden's future security. It provides insight into how Sweden functions in crisis and war, and how the entire population has a role to play. This understanding is crucial for us to have a robust and resilient society with a strong defense will, says Robert Trupp, project manager at the Swedish Armed Forces for total defense knowledge in schools.

The content includes, among other things, Sweden's total defense, international law, and the significance of foreign and security policy for interstate relations, including NATO's role.
