Sweden is set to acquire four frigates. The acquisition will be at the centre of attention when Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson receives France's President Emmanuel Macron on Monday for talks on deepened Swedish-French defence cooperation.
During the afternoon, Kristersson and Macron will take part in a signing ceremony for Sweden's acquisition of the four frigates, the government writes in a press release. The ceremony is scheduled for 4pm and will be followed by joint press statements.
In connection with the visit, Minister for Defence Pål Jonson and France's Minister for the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin will also sign a framework agreement to strengthen Swedish-French cooperation on operational matters, defence capability and industrial development.
Sweden and France have previously deepened cooperation in the defence sector. In January 2024, the countries renewed their strategic innovation partnership, which among other things includes deepened cooperation between the defence industries. The following day, NDS reported on a Swedish-French declaration of intent regarding future cooperation on air surveillance and air defence.
President Macron will also be received in audience by HM King Carl XVI Gustaf and HRH Crown Princess Victoria at the Royal Palace during the day.
