The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed a preliminary design contract with H-B Utveckling AB to extend the service life of all variants of the Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90). The goal is for the system to remain operational until at least 2045.

The contract includes the implementation of technical development packages and production preparatory measures, according to a press release from FMV. The assignment also includes prototype manufacturing and the ordering of materiel. H-B Utveckling is equally owned by BAE Systems Bofors AB and BAE Systems Hägglunds AB, and it is a joint venture between BAE Systems Bofors AB and BAE Systems Hägglunds AB.

According to FMV, the agreement marks the beginning of work to extend the system's lifespan and comes just over two years after the agreement with the Swedish consortium Nordic Terrain Solutions for the renovation and modification of 800 tracked vehicles (Bandvagn 206 and 208), which NDS previously reported on.
