Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed two agreements for deliveries to submarines in both Norway and Germany. The agreements include combat management systems for the upcoming 212CD submarine class and navigation systems for the German Navy's existing 212A-class submarines. The total contract value amounts to over 4 billion Norwegian kroner.

The larger of the two contracts concerns the delivery of ORCCA combat management systems to six new 212CD submarines: four to be delivered to Germany and two to Norway. The contract, signed with the German-Norwegian company kta naval systems, is valued at 3.5 billion Norwegian kroner. Kta naval systems is a joint venture between ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), ATLAS Elektronik, and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, responsible for developing and delivering combat management systems to non-nuclear submarines.

Earlier in December, the Norwegian government announced plans to expand its order of 212CD submarines from four to six. The decision has not yet been formally approved by the Storting (Norwegian Parliament).

In addition, Kongsberg has also signed a separate contract worth over 600 million Norwegian kroner with TKMS for the delivery of navigation systems to four German 212A-class submarines, as part of an upgrade programme. The German Navy's training facilities for the 212A system are also included in the delivery. The technical solutions are based on systems developed for the 212CD programme.

According to Kongsberg's CEO Eirik Lie, Germany and Norway will together operate a joint fleet of twelve 212CD submarines equipped with what the company describes as the market's most advanced combat management systems.
