Kongsberg has signed a contract with Raytheon for the delivery of the NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) air defence system to Kuwait through the United States Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme. The contract is worth approximately 400 million US dollars to Kongsberg.

According to a press release from Kongsberg, NASAMS will be integrated into Kuwait's layered air defence and will provide protection against airborne threats at both short and long ranges. The system is intended to strengthen the protection of the population, critical infrastructure, and strategic installations.

The acquisition helps address Kuwait's urgent operational need for a modern, flexible, and combat-proven air defence capability. It underscores NASAMS's role as one of the world's most widely used and operationally deployed medium-range air defence systems, says Kjetil Reiten Myhra, Head of Defence Systems at Kongsberg.

NASAMS is jointly developed by Kongsberg and US-based Raytheon.
