According to a press release from the Swedish Ministry of Defence dated 18 September, discussions focused on military support to Ukraine and how it can contribute to strengthening Ukraine's long-term military capability. The meeting was chaired by US Secretary of Defence Lloyd J. Austin together with Ukraine's newly appointed Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
In addition to Pål Jonson's bilateral meeting with Rustem Umerov, Jonson presented Sweden's ongoing military support to Ukraine to the meeting's participants. During the bilateral meeting, the defence ministers discussed Sweden's continued support to Ukraine and how the two countries can strengthen cooperation, according to a post by Pål Jonson on X (formerly Twitter).
Defence Minister Umerov described the bilateral meetings as "productive", and also wrote that fruitful cooperation is to be expected, in a reply to Pål Jonson's post.
