Defence Minister Pål Jonson (M) and Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M) will visit Romania and Moldova on 19–20 August 2024. The purpose of the visits is to strengthen cooperation in military and civil defence between Sweden and the concerned countries, writes the Ministry of Defence in a press release.

During the visit to Romania, the ministers will meet Romania's Defence Minister Angel Tîlvăr for discussions on security policy and support for Ukraine. Pål Jonson also plans to visit the Romanian airbase Borcea Air Base, which plays an important role in the training of F16 pilots and Ukraine's capability coalition for combat aircraft.

Carl-Oskar Bohlin, in turn, will meet Romania's Interior Minister Marian Cătălin Predoiu and visit the EU Cybersecurity Competence Centre in Bucharest. The visit to Moldova includes meetings with the country's president and ministers responsible for defence and strategic communication.

The ministers will also make a brief stop at Pápa Air Base in Hungary to meet Swedish personnel working at the international air transport cooperation Strategic Airlift Capability.
