- It is important that we systematically learn from the war in Ukraine to strengthen our own total defence. This also includes evaluating how Swedish and Western equipment has performed in combat situations, says Minister of Defence Pål Jonson in the press release.
The assignment to the Swedish Armed Forces is to be carried out with support from the Swedish Defence Research Agency, FOI, with an interim report due on 6 November 2023 and a final report on 7 June 2024, which will serve as a basis for the work on the next defence decision in 2025.
Examples of relevant experiences may concern the training of Ukrainian soldiers, operational and strategic experiences that can be gained, and how different supply solutions have functioned. It may also involve experiences from a total defence perspective, such as defence willingness and leadership.
The government decided to assign FMV and MSB to provide corresponding reports that can be utilised in the continued development of total defence and within each authority's area of operation, concludes the Ministry of Defence's press release.
