Sweden intends to support the Czech initiative with 30 million euros to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defence. The government has decided that the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) is authorised to negotiate and enter into agreements with the responsible authority in the Czech Republic to finance the ammunition purchase.
The decision to support the Czech initiative with 30 million euros is made within the framework of Support Package 15, which involves financial support to funds and various bilateral and multilateral donation projects to support Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defence, the government is awaiting the parliament's decision to approve an additional amending budget to enable the contribution.
– The Ukrainian ammunition need is significant, especially regarding artillery ammunition. The Czech Republic has identified opportunities to purchase large quantities of ammunition on the world market for donation to Ukraine. The government wants to support the Czech Republic in this effort, says Defence Minister Pål Jonson on X (formerly Twitter).
