The government has decided on a new military support package for Ukraine, the twentieth in order, valued at approximately 9.2 billion SEK. The support is intended to strengthen Ukraine's artillery, naval, and air defense capabilities.
– Sweden is now increasing its military support to Ukraine to put more pressure on Russia. More Archers, drones, and ammunition will be beneficial on the battlefield. Europe's right to peace and freedom must be defended, says Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) in a press release from the government.
The package consists of four parts. For artillery and long-range capability, 18 Archer artillery pieces, artillery ammunition, and long-range drones are being procured. The naval part includes coastal radar systems, support ferries with mortars, diving chambers, and crane trucks. For air defense and space, ammunition, sensors, and command systems for the already donated Swedish air defense system Tridon are being procured, as well as equipment for airbase operations and sensors to detect drones and missiles. Additionally, investments in civil defense and services via FOI and the Swedish Defense University are included. According to the government, the focus is on procuring newly manufactured equipment, as the Armed Forces' ability to spare existing systems has decreased. The support package is primarily to be financed through purchases from the Swedish defense industry. In the budget proposal for 2026, an increase in military support is also proposed, with a framework of 40 billion SEK per year for both 2026 and 2027. For civil aid, the government proposes that at least 10 billion SEK per year be allocated for 2026 and 2027, and 10.5 billion SEK in 2028. The proposals are based on an agreement between the government and the Sweden Democrats.
