The government has presented the 17th military support package to Ukraine, valued at 4.6 billion kronor, to strengthen the country's defence capability. The package includes both donations of materiel and financial support, with a particular focus on meeting Ukraine's prioritised needs in the war against Russia, writes the Ministry of Defence in a press release.

The support was presented during a press conference with Defence Minister Pål Jonson (Moderate Party), the Sweden Democrats' foreign policy spokesperson Aron Emilsson, the Liberal Party's foreign policy spokesperson Joar Forssell, and the Christian Democrats' defence policy spokesperson Mikael Oscarsson.

The support consists, among other things, of procurements of military equipment, where Sweden shifts focus from donations to production. This includes ammunition for the Combat Vehicle 90 (Stridsfordon 90) and camouflage equipment for the Armoured Personnel Carrier 302 (Pansarbandvagn 302).

Additionally, the package includes air defence missiles of the type RBS 70, anti-tank weapons, and tank mines, as well as protective masks and equipment for contaminated environments. On the naval side, Ukraine will receive six additional Combat Boat 90 (Stridsbåt 90) with accompanying launch trailers.

A procurement of materiel kits for the JAS 39 Gripen C/D is also being conducted. According to the government, this is to enable a future donation of the Gripen, although no decision has been made. By acquiring materiel kits, conditions are created to potentially donate a number of JAS 39C/D, instead of dismantling the kits from operational JAS 39C/D.

The press release further states that it is not currently relevant to transfer the JAS Gripen to Ukraine, as it would interfere with the introduction of the F-16. However, the government continues to work on creating conditions to potentially support Ukraine with the JAS 39 Gripen at a later stage.

Financial support of 700 million kronor is allocated for international defence initiatives such as the International Fund for Ukraine and other multilateral collaborations.
