Government Appoints New Research Advisory Board: FHS Rector Among the Members

The government has appointed a new Research Advisory Board to serve as an advisor on research and innovation policy issues. Robert Egnell, the rector of the Swedish Defence University, is one of the members.

The government announced on 3 August that they are appointing a Research Council. The council will serve as an advisor to the government, among other things, in the development of the research and innovation policy bill expected by the end of 2024. One of the members is Robert Egnell, rector at the Swedish Defence University (FHS).

– My ambition is for the quality of Swedish research to increase and for the conditions for research-intensive innovation to be strengthened. [...] Higher education and research are crucial for Sweden's skills supply and for Sweden to be competitive as well as to meet various societal challenges, says Minister for Education Mats Persson.

According to the government's press release, the purpose of the Research Council is to contribute with national and international monitoring, analyses, and advice to research and innovation policy, which focuses on excellence, internationalisation, and innovation. The council is appointed from 1 September 2023 until 30 September 2024.
