A German Air Force Heron TP drone flew through Danish airspace on 29 September. According to Danish Defence, the flight was part of Denmark's preparations to receive its own uncrewed aircraft in 2028.
The drone took off from Schleswig in Germany. A pilot flew it remotely from a ground station in Germany and communicated with Naviair via satellite. Naviair, the Danish air navigation provider, monitored the flight.
The route ran from the border in Southern Jutland, up eastern Jutland to Aalborg and back over western Jutland. The aircraft was planned to spend about two hours in Danish airspace at around seven kilometres altitude, according to the Forsvaret press release. The Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority had approved the safety procedures.
— This is another important step towards receiving our own uncrewed aircraft in the coming years, said Brigadier General Hans Peter Andersen, deputy chief of Danish Air Command.
Denmark ordered four MQ-9Bs from General Atomics in July 2025. They will operate from Aalborg Air Base under the new Squadron 729, as NDS has previously reported. The aircraft will patrol Greenland and the North Atlantic.
