FMU is a compressed basic military training that provides volunteers with the opportunity to undergo military training and subsequently serve as a soldier in the Home Guard. The concept has been developed to meet the increased interest among Swedish citizens who wish to engage in military defence without prior conscription.
– For this summer's training, all 150 places are filled, which shows that there is a great interest among Sweden's population to engage in military defence, says Brigadier General Mattias Ardin, Deputy Chief of the National Home Guard, in an article on the Swedish Armed Forces' website.
The training includes, among other things, field and combat service, medical care, weapons handling, and the laws of war. After evaluation, the goal is for all four military regions to conduct their own training sessions in 2026. The Western Military Region is already planning a training session in Skredsvik next summer.
