The French surface combatant FS La Fayette recently visited Stockholm and is now out in the Baltic Sea to conduct exercises together with the Swedish Navy. La Fayette left its home port in Toulon a few months ago and is now part of NATO's standing force, Standing NATO Maritime Group 1.

– Together we practiced, among other things, joint naval warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and helicopter winching, says Clas Olovsson, commanding officer of HMS Helsingborg, in a post on the navy's social media.

According to France's defence attaché, Colonel Sylvain Lautier, it is the first time since 2001 that a ship of the La Fayette class visits Sweden.

On Thursday, Colonel Lautier visited the ship together with representatives from the Swedish Armed Forces, including Rear Admiral Jens Nykvist, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff and former Chief of the Navy.

Yesterday, FS La Fayette left Frihamnen and met up with the Visby-class corvette HMS Helsingborg in the Baltic Sea to conduct joint exercises.

FS La Fayette has now been placed under the command of NATO's standing naval force, Standing NATO Maritime Group 1. The standing force visited Sweden in March, when France was represented by the frigate FS Normandie.
